John C. Fickes
John C. Fickes has practiced law in the Akron area since 1985 and joined Roderick Linton Belfance in 2017. After graduating from St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, John earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from John Carroll University in Cleveland, a Master of Arts degree in Philosophy from the University of Detroit and his Juris Doctor from the Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 1985. John’s law work involves all forms of dispute resolution – civil, domestic, and criminal – from legal counseling through trial and appeals, and in both the state and federal court systems. As an active member of the Akron Bar Association, John has served as chairman of several committees within the organization. He is also a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the Charles F. Scanlon and Judge Samuel H. Bell Inn of Court.
John’s family has lived in the Akron area since the 1920s. His grandparents established the Akron Bearing Company, Inc. in 1940 and the family continues to own and operate the company. He is the eldest of six children, all raised in the Firestone Park area, and the father of three adult daughters. Mr. Fickes resides in Akron and belongs to St. Vincent de Paul Church.
An active participant in community affairs, John is the long-time chairman of the board of directors of the Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority, which during his tenure has been consistently recognized as a high-performing authority by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. In addition, John has twice won nomination as a candidate for the Common Pleas Court in Summit County, has served as president of the Humane Society of Greater Akron, is a member of the Leadership Akron Alumni Association (Class XVI) and currently sits on the Blossom Board of the Cleveland Orchestra and the board of the First Friday Club of Greater Akron.
